5. Green Day – insomniac (1995)

Run day – Tuesday 30th January, 2024

This is a backdated post because I started the project in January before I decided to start this blog.

I’m very much appreciating the relatively short length of these early Green Day albums so far because the times make for a relaxed run. I’ve been so concious to try and limit my pace to give my shins time to acclimatise. I should mention that I’ve been doing some “cross-training” too! I do pilates and yoga a few times a week which I think is really helping to strengthen my calves, quads, glutes, and core. Hopefully strenghtening these muscles means that I can recruit the right ones whilst I’m running and my poor calves won’t try to do all of it by themselves! I try to remember to do the exercises that my physio said to(whoops to when I don’t), but see how CAREFUL I’m trying to be?! Please remind me of this later when I inevitably do something silly and stuff my legs up again.

Back to Green Day, though, Insomniac is a strong album all the way through, but my clear favourite by far was Panic Song. I’m a SUCKER for a long instrumental intro that just builds and builds and builds!

Nimrod next!
