4. Green Day – Dookie (1994)

38 mins

Run day – Sunday 21st January, 2024.

This is a backdated post because I started the project in January before I decided to start this blog.

Dookie, the day before my birthday, what a treat! Such a classic album, and a real banger to run to – bouncy and peppy in all of the right places! I don’t remember too much about the run but I do remember that my mind really wandered and I started thinking about how much this album must have influenced so many bands, like literally carving out a bit more space for them to proliferate in the late 90s/early 2000s (I’m thinking about you, Sum 41!).

My favourite on the album is In The End – I just love the upbeat energy and the cool little drum break down (interlude? I don’t know what it’s called?!) in the middle because it has a real driving force that makes running to it feel fun. Actually, the whole album really does, and I felt inspired to sprint my last km – really a terrible idea! I had to ice my shin immediately afterwards! Curse the impulse to sprint to Dookie, unless you have shins that are under control!

I have to give She a special mention too, I’ve always loved that track.

That’s it! On to Insomniac!
